Operation White Flag and Samaritan Patrol

Wayside van searches for homeless people who
haven’t made it into shelter

Wayside van transports people to safety of
shelter

If persons don’t wish to go to shelter, van
leaves coffee, sandwiches, & blankets or
sleeping bags in the winter, cool water and
fruit in the summer
-
When temperatures are 35 degrees or lower in
the winter, with or without wind chill, and
when temperatures are 95 degrees or above in
the summer, with or without the heat index,
Operation White Flag is in effect.

Shelter rules are relaxed, allowing shelters
to open over-flow areas and to accept
persons we normally would not (due to
behavior problems, no ID, etc.)

Shelter flies a White Flag outside the
shelter, alerting homeless persons to
dangerous conditions and the ability to
enter the shelter, no questions asked.

Volunteers are called in to operate the
Samaritan Patrol (See first three bullets
above)
-
Operation Hospitality Volunteers are called
in to provide additional care and services
in the over-flow areas.
